The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8 that our enemy Satan is like a lion that wants to rip us apart. Satan will tempt us to disobey God, but God will show us a way out!
TALK TO GOD: “Dear God, you know the temptations I struggle with. Thank you that you have promised me a way to escape. Amen.”
INVESTIGATE GOD’S WORD: Read 1 Corinthians 10:13 (Memorize verse 13)
MAKE IT PRACTICAL:
I WONDER –Read 1 Corinthians 10:13
What sins do you struggle with? Sex, Lust, Drugs, Gossip, Anger, Hate, Greed, Glutton, the list goes on and on…
Paul gave strong encouragement to the Corinthians about temptation. God helps you resist temptation by first helping you recognize it. He then gives you the courage to run from what you know is wrong and to seek friends who love God and can offer help in times of temptation. Running from a tempting situation is the first step to victory (see 2 Timothy 2:22).
Maybe you struggle with Gossip or Anger/Profanity Psalm 141:3 is for you. Take a moment to refocus your thoughts on that prayer Psalm 141:3 rather than on the temptation to say something. Otherwise, you will find yourself giving into temptation.
Are you guilty of bitterness? Before you say no; ask yourself these questions:
Do you gossip (casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people)?
Do you say harsh words or slander others?
Do you have opinions about another person accomplishments that you make them feel little about what they accomplished?
Regardless of how subtle you are “they notice” and you’re hurting them. Or maybe your not intentionally doing it, but hopefully now your aware, and now that you're aware you must stop! (Read Ephesians 4:31, Hebrews 12:15, and Mark 12:30-31 ) Love one another, and look deep within yourself for change. There is nothing but room for change in your life, as well as personal, and spiritual growth for yourself.
The first step is freeing yourself from harsh sin such as bitterness, resentment, hate, dislike of a fellow neighbor. For as Galatians 5:14 says “For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
KEEP IT REAL – Read 1 Peter 3:15
Have you ever been so comfortable environment or situation? Maybe it’s your new job, new home location, or maybe you’re just at the perfect point of your life with God. After a while or maybe even years you’re getting this overwhelming feeling; like God wants you to go back to your old environment?
I know you’re thinking why right? You know how difficult it’s going to be because of all the pressures to live for yourself, not for God. You just escaped the life of temptation, your beautiful new life has begun, you’re the happiest you’ve ever been, your life is basically perfect, why are you feeling like you need to go back? How do you even begin to behave like a Christian back in that old life’s atmosphere (read 1 Peter 3:15) and (Read Mathew 9:11-13 to fully understand” Memorize verse 13”).
Your purpose for your longing to be back in your old environment is to be ready to tell the people of the hope you have in Jesus Christ. Don’t be afraid of being laughed at or mocked due to your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, he is calling you to share the good news. Do not hide your faith in Jesus Christ. You are God’s Ambassador, you are being called to Evangelize. Do NOT be scared he choose you for a reason.
If you’re at a party with your old friends and their drinking and they offer you a beer/alcohol, tell them you don’t need beer/alcohol to have a good time anymore. Jesus helps you to enjoy life with people just as they are, some will respect you yet most won't. But it’s far better for them to mock you for doing something right than for making a fool of yourself in front of God!
Don’t deny him, Pray to him to give you the wisdom and understanding of the beautiful journey your about to begin.
Did you know there are 5 ways to serve God: (Read 1 Corinthians 14:26):
(1) One will Sing
(2) Another will Teach
(3) Another will tell some special revelation God has given
(4) One will speak in tongues
(5) Another will interpret what he has said
EXPRESS YOUR THOUGHTS (Journal Time): How can you put these ideas presented here into action in your own life? List the three temptations that Satan really uses on you. Thank God ahead of time he will show you how to not give in next time.
