As children in God's family, you'll still mess up. But God's love for you is so great that he will forgive you! He can do that because he loves you!
TALK TO GOD: “Dear God, I confess to you my sins of ____________. I admit that it was wrong. Thank you that Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of this sin. Amen.”
INVESTIGATE GOD’S WORD: Read 1 John 1:8-10 (Memorize verse 9)
MAKE IT PRACTICAL:
I WONDER – Read James 4:17
First we are told that we can’t earn salvation, Next, we are told that we have to do stuff to prove that we are saved.
Ommm what’s up with that?
Here’s a sample of both:
(James 1:22-27) “But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.”
(James 2:17) “So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.”
Now if someone declared his or her love for you, but within minutes began spreading vicious rumors about you, would you believe that he or she loved you? Not likely, right? On the same token, many people claim to be Christians, yet their lives don’t reflect the fruit of the Spirit (see Galatians 5:22-23) or a willingness to grow.
In fact, they don’t seem any different than their life (Before Christ). We can’t earn God’s forgiveness. Jesus already paid the price for that by dying on the cross. We can, however, show our gratitude and acceptance of that act of love by showing his love toward others (Read John 13:34-35).
KEEP IT REAL – Read Lamentations 3:22-23
Have you ever had a major disagreement where you’ve officially blown it? Did you slam the door, brake something or throw yourself in bed bursting in tears or in a state of anger hitting the wall knowing they are being unfair, unreasonable? But then after you screamed or cried it out, you thought about the fight for a while.
Although they are wrong, looking back you have to admit that you said and did some pretty ugly things too. The more you thought about it you realized you need to apologize. It may have taken a few hours or days but you finally came out, and apologized for the hurtful things you may have said or done too! And after you sucked it up and made that apology they said “You think it’s that easy? You just say you’re sorry and you think everything is ok now? It doesn’t work that way?” And you standing there thinking it’s pretty easy to punch you right now, or scream and yell, and brake more things or cry and run away. I mean you said sorry, right? Why can’t they just forgive you, the fight was not all you; they took part in it too, where is their apology?
Read Lamentations 3:22-23 “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” Realize even when they don’t forgive you, God did! He knows you were sincere and will help you to do better. And even if you didn’t love yourself, he loves you more than you will ever know. His compassion, forgiveness will always be there for you tomorrow.
Pray to God ask him to take away this anger and hurt, to open up their heart and help them forgive you. And even if they never do, don’t give up! Know your heart is right with God, and you keep forgiving every day and work on the things you do wrong as that’s between you and God, and as long as you ask God to help you daily he will always be there loving and guiding you each and every day.
Read the book: The Prayer of Jabez this will open your mind and help you understand that God wants you to pray and reach out to him “every day” he has gifts for you “every day” but you have to ask for them! Unlock your daily gift from God daily with prayer, and the book of The Prayer of Jabez will show you how!
EXPRESS YOUR THOUGHTS (Journal Time): How can you put these ideas presented here into action in your own life? Write down the ways that you have disobeyed God recently. Look at each on and confess it through prayer. Cross out each sin. Let this remind you of God's loving forgiveness.
Be sure to thank him!
