Have you ever had tense muscles, anxiety, or increased heart rate during a stressful situation?

General Adaptation Syndrome, discovered in 1936, describes the physical symptoms our bodies undergo during times of both acute and chronic stress.

 

The process explains that stress induces hormonal autonomic responses and, over time, these hormonal changes can lead to ulcers, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, arthritis, kidney disease, and allergic reactions.

Sometimes when we are faced with a problem, we have trouble imagining possible solutions, or what often happens is that we only see one possible way out of the problem, but for one reason or another do not think our imagined solution is possible.

Even though it may seem like a solution to our problems does not exist, or is too difficult to achieve, the reality is that we have an infinite number of solutions available to us at any given time.

 

All we have to do is use our imaginations!

Becoming an adult comes with a great deal of responsibility. Often, that responsibility involves the care and nurturing of others ahead or instead of ourselves.

This can cause us to feel indecisive when making decisions because we feel the need to consider everyone else’s feelings ahead of our own. It also forces us to do things out of obligation instead of out of our own desires.

 

We make choices based on what is expected and not based on what we want or need.

In order to begin to refocus on ourselves, we need to learn to reconnect with our inner child.
